Make an AI headshot from your own selfies

Two ways to get a profile photo out of AI4Chat: the headshot tool, which needs four selfies, and the photo editor, which restyles one. Then the job-search details: LinkedIn sizes and where a resume photo belongs.

AI4Chat's AI headshot generator takes four selfies of your face and returns a studio-style headshot: plain neutral background, soft light, and a muted, slightly grainy film finish. It runs on PhotoMaker, an open model from Tencent ARC that builds a likeness from several photos of the same person, which is why it asks for four. The look is fixed. If you want a specific backdrop or a blazer you do not own, there is a second route: take your best single selfie into the photo editor and describe the headshot you want.

How the AI headshot generator works

Make a headshot from four selfies

  1. 1

Pick four photos of your face

Clear, well lit, from slightly different angles. The checklist below covers what to avoid.

  2. 2

Add one photo to each slot

Open the headshot tool. It has four upload slots, one per photo.

  3. 3

    Generate

You get one headshot per run. Run it again for another take; small differences between runs are normal.

  4. 4

Check it against a real photo of you

Eyes, nose, jaw and hairline should match. If something is off, swap the weakest of the four selfies and try again.

Choosing the four selfies

Good input photos

  • Your face clearly visible in every photo, with no sunglasses, masks or hands in the way.
  • Daylight from a window rather than a ceiling bulb or a flash.
  • A few different angles: straight on, slightly left, slightly right.
  • Recent photos only, with your current hair and glasses, so the headshot matches the person on the video call.
  • Just you. Crops from group photos can carry part of someone else's face.
  • No beauty filters. The model learns your face from these, so it will learn the filter too.

Want a specific backdrop or outfit? Use the editor

The headshot tool always gives you the same neutral, film-style portrait. For a crisp full-color look, an office background, or a navy blazer instead of the T-shirt you were wearing, upload one sharp, front-facing selfie to the photo editor and choose Nano Banana. Google built it to keep a person consistent through edits, which is what a headshot needs. Our editor can hand a short, plain request to a lighter model, so use the full prompts below rather than a one-liner; the “keep my face” sentence in each does the most work.

Headshot prompts for the photo editor
Turn this selfie into a professional headshot. Navy blazer over a plain white shirt. Soft light-gray studio backdrop. Soft light from the front left. Head and shoulders, centered, eye level. Keep my face, hair, skin texture and expression exactly as they are.

Make this a corporate headshot with a softly blurred modern office behind me. Charcoal suit jacket, no tie. Natural daylight. Keep my face and hair unchanged.

Create a relaxed headshot for a creative portfolio: plain warm-beige background, dark crew-neck sweater, gentle side light. Keep my face, glasses and hair exactly the same.

Replace the background with a plain mid-gray backdrop and straighten my posture slightly. Change nothing about my face.

Keep it to the clothes, background and light. Ask it to change your face and it will.

LinkedIn headshot size and framing

LinkedIn accepts profile photos between 400 x 400 and 7680 x 4320 pixels and recommends a photo that will not need much cropping, according to its Help Center. The photo is shown as a circle, so a square image with your head and shoulders in the middle survives the crop best. If your headshot comes out smaller than 400 pixels on a side, run it through the upscaler at 2x before you upload it.

Should you put a headshot on your resume?

It depends entirely on the country the job is in. Use the norm of the hiring country, not the country you are applying from.

Acting and modeling follow their own rules: there, the headshot is part of the application.

Questions people ask

Is there a free AI headshot generator on AI4Chat?

You can open the headshot tool with a free account, but a run costs 300 credits, far more than a free account's starting balance. Headshots run on AI4Chat Unlimited, which starts with a 7-day free trial; the price for your country is shown before you pay.

How many photos do I need for an AI headshot?

Four for the headshot tool, one per upload slot. The photo editor route needs only one good selfie, since you describe the result instead.

Can I choose the background and clothes?

Not in the headshot tool, which always produces a neutral backdrop with a muted film finish. In the photo editor you can name the backdrop, the jacket and the light in your prompt.

Are AI headshots OK for LinkedIn?

What matters is that the photo looks like you, because the people who view it will meet you. Keep your real features and use AI for the backdrop, clothes and light.

Can I make a headshot from just one selfie?

Yes, with the photo editor. Upload a sharp, front-facing selfie, choose Nano Banana and use one of the prompts above, ending with the instruction to keep your face exactly as it is.
