AI4Chat's AI music generator makes two kinds of track from a written description. Pick instrumental and Meta's MusicGen writes a short clip with no vocals. Pick vocal and DiffRhythm sings a song of about a minute and a half, with lyrics you paste in or lyrics a chat model writes from your description. A separate Music to Music tool reworks a clip you upload. Each run takes a few minutes. If the track is headed for something you'll sell or monetize, read the licence section first, because the three models don't come with the same terms.
What can the AI music generator make?
| Mode and model | You give it | You get |
|---|---|---|
| Instrumental Meta MusicGen | A description (up to 2,000 characters) | A short clip, about 15 s, no vocals |
| Vocal song DiffRhythm | A description, plus your lyrics if you have them | About 95 s with sung vocals and a generated title |
| Continue MusicGen | An MP3 or WAV, at least 15 s, max 3 MB | A short continuation of your clip |
| Transform MiniMax Music-01 | A reference track plus lyrics (max 400 characters) | A new track in the reference's style |

Track length per generation, in seconds
| Instrumental (MusicGen) | 15 s |
| Transform (MiniMax), max | 60 s |
| Vocal song (DiffRhythm) | 95 s |

That length gap decides which mode you want more than anything else. Fifteen seconds is enough for a podcast sting, a loop under a product shot or a test of a sound before you commit. For something with a verse and a chorus, use vocal. Neither gives you a three-minute radio-length song, and if that's the goal, a tool built only for full songs will suit you better.
Each generation costs 1,000 credits, shown under the button before you click. The tool page puts the average wait at 2 to 5 minutes and the maximum at 15, so leave the tab open, or switch on the email notice in Settings.
How to write a music prompt that lands
Models fill every gap you leave with the most average choice. "A happy song" gets you generic pop. Name five things and you get something with a shape: genre, mood, tempo, lead instruments and where it will be used. Write the description in English even if your lyrics aren't; Meta's model card says MusicGen was trained on English descriptions and does worse in other languages.
Tempo is the one people skip. "Slow" and "fast" help; a BPM number, as in the examples below, is more precise. Describe a style with its parts ("punchy drum machine, gated snare, bright synth arpeggios") rather than by naming an artist. You get closer to the sound, and you stay clear of the copying risk DiffRhythm's own makers warn about. If you're stuck, the Enhance Prompt button rewrites your short description into a fuller one you can edit.
[genre], [mood], [tempo or BPM], [lead instruments], [use or setting] Lo-fi hip hop, mellow and warm, about 75 BPM, dusty piano chords, brushed drums, soft vinyl crackle, background for a study playlist Upbeat 80s synth-pop, bright and driving, 120 BPM, punchy drum machine, arpeggiated synth bass, short intro for a product video Indian classical fusion, calm and meditative, slow, bansuri flute over a tanpura drone, light tabla, for a yoga class
Example prompts we wrote to show the structure. They are not tested results; expect to run two or three versions and keep the best.
How to write lyrics the AI can sing
Before DiffRhythm sings, the tool fits your lyrics onto a timed grid: the first line near 0:05, the last near 1:30, a new line every 3 to 4 seconds. That's 85 seconds of singing, which works out to roughly 21 to 28 short lines (85 divided by 4, and 85 divided by 3). Paste a five-verse epic and most of it can't fit.
- Keep each line short enough to sing in three or four seconds.
- Write one verse and one chorus, then repeat the chorus. When the tool writes lyrics itself, it asks for that same shape.
- Leave out section labels like [Verse] and [Chorus]. The tool's own lyric writer is told not to use them, and on a timed grid a label just takes a line.
- Leave the lyrics box empty if you'd rather react to a draft: a chat model writes lyrics from your description and the tool names the song for you. If you want to edit those lyrics before singing, draft them in AI4Chat chat first and paste them back in.
Can you use AI-generated music commercially?
Our terms say you keep the rights to what you generate and may use it commercially. That covers our side. Each model's makers publish their own terms, and they differ. As of November 7, 2026:
- MusicGen (Meta): weights released under CC-BY-NC 4.0, a non-commercial licence, and the model card names research as the primary intended use.
- DiffRhythm (ASLP lab): code and weights under Apache 2.0. The project page asks users to check originality, disclose AI involvement and get permission when adapting protected styles.
- MiniMax Music-01: the Replicate page lists features and limits but no licence for outputs, so check MiniMax's own terms.
AI4Chat or a dedicated song generator?
If you want full-length songs and nothing else, a dedicated song tool will do more. Suno's own page talks about complete songs with a beginning, middle and ending. AI4Chat makes sense if you also use chat, images or text to speech and want music in the same account, or if you care which model made your track and what its licence says.

Questions people ask
Is the AI music generator free?
You need a free account, and each generation costs 1,000 credits. A free account's one-time balance (20 chat credits and 1 image credit) doesn't cover that, so music is in practice an AI4Chat Unlimited feature, which starts with a 7-day free trial. See pricing.
Can I make a song in Hindi, Punjabi or Spanish?
We can't promise it. Write the style description in English, since MusicGen's makers say it does worse in other languages. For lyrics in another language, try a short verse first and listen before you spend more runs on it.
Can I upload my own track and remix it?
Yes, in Music to Music. Continue extends your clip; Transform makes a new track in its style, with lyrics you write (up to 400 characters) or lyrics generated for you. Files must be MP3 or WAV, at least 15 seconds long and no bigger than 3 MB.
Can it make a song that sounds like a famous singer?
Don't ask it to. Describe the parts of the sound you like (tempo, instruments, production style) instead of naming an artist. You'll get closer to what you hear in your head and avoid the copying problems DiffRhythm's makers warn about.
How do I download the track?
Each finished track has a download button that saves an MP3, and everything you generate stays in the gallery on the tool page.
