AI4Chat's AI app builder, Text to App, turns a description into a working single-page web app. You type what you want, it writes three plain files (index.html, styles.css and script.js), and the result runs in a preview next to the code. You change it by asking in a chat pane or by editing the files yourself, then download everything as a ZIP.
It is a front-end builder. There's no server, no database and no hosting on our side, which makes it quick and simple for calculators, landing pages, quizzes and small tools, and the wrong choice for anything with user accounts or payments. Most of this page is about that trade-off.

How the AI app builder works
From a sentence to a downloaded app
- 1
Describe the app
Open Text to App and answer "What do you want to build?" in plain words. The composer suggests starters such as a coffee shop landing page, a portfolio with a projects grid, a dashboard with charts and a sidebar, or a to-do app that saves to local storage.
- 2
Generate the project
The studio writes index.html, styles.css and script.js. The instructions behind it ask for a complete, responsive page with working buttons and real copy, never placeholder text. The files appear in an explorer and the app runs in the preview pane.
- 3
Ask for changes in the chat
Type a change, such as "add a dark mode toggle" or "make the cards stack on phones". Only the files that need to change are rewritten, and each is rewritten in full, so nothing is left half-edited. The conversation is saved with the project, so you can come back tomorrow and carry on.
- 4
Fix errors in one click
Errors from the running app show up in a console drawer. A Fix Errors button pastes them into the chat as a request, which is quicker than copying stack traces by hand.
- 5
Download and publish
Download the project as a ZIP. Open index.html in a browser to use it locally, or upload the three files to any static web host.
What it builds well, and what it can't build
Good fits
- Landing pages and one-page sites for a shop, event or portfolio
- Calculators and converters: tips, loans, units, recipe scaling
- Quizzes, flashcards and simple browser games
- To-do lists and habit trackers that save in your own browser
- Dashboards and charts built on sample or pasted-in data
Use something else for
- Anything with sign-up and login
- Data that several people share, like a booking system
- Taking payments
- Code that needs a secret API key or a server
- Native iPhone or Android apps for the app stores
The line is simple: if it can run entirely inside one browser tab, Text to App can probably build it. "Saves to local storage" means the data lives in that one browser on that one device. Clear the browser data, or open the app on your phone, and it starts empty. For a personal tracker that's fine. For a team tool it isn't.
Example: a bill splitter in four messages
Here is how we'd build a small, genuinely useful app: a bill splitter for a group dinner. This is the sequence of messages and what to check after each one, not a recording of a real session.
Message 1 is the description. Be specific about inputs, outputs and the feel. Vague prompts get generic layouts.
A bill splitter for a group dinner, mobile first. Inputs: bill total, tip percentage (buttons for 10, 15, 18 and 20 percent plus a custom field), number of people. Show each person's share, the tip amount and the grand total, updating as I type. Round each share up to the nearest cent. Large tap targets, one column, a calm green colour scheme, no stock photos.
Saying "no stock photos" matters: by default the generated pages pull pictures from Unsplash.
When the preview loads, test it with numbers you can check in your head. A bill of $84.50 with an 18 percent tip is $15.21 of tip and $99.71 in total; split three ways and rounded up, that is $33.24 each. If the page shows anything else, say exactly what you typed and what you expected. "84.50, 18%, 3 people shows 33.23, should round up to 33.24" gets fixed in one round. "The maths is wrong" might not.
Message 2 adds the feature people actually argue about: "Add an uneven split mode where I enter what each person ordered, and share the tip in proportion." Check it with two people and very different orders.
Message 3 adds memory: "Save the last five bills in the browser and list them under the calculator." Reload the preview to make sure they survive.
Message 4 is housekeeping. Open the console drawer, press Fix Errors if anything is red, then switch the full-screen preview to phone width and tap through every button. Download the ZIP when it all works.

Lovable: lovable.dev/pricing and docs.lovable.dev. Bolt.new: bolt.new/pricing and support.bolt.new. Both checked 7 November 2026.
Lovable and Bolt.new are built for full products with a backend and hosting; we've written fuller, fair comparisons of each, as a Lovable alternative and a Bolt.new alternative. Text to App is a smaller tool that lives inside a bigger account. If you also want a logo for the page you just built, the AI logo generator guide is in the same plan, and the full list of tools shows the rest.
Who should use it
Use Text to App if you want a working page or small tool this afternoon, you want to read and keep the code, and you already use other AI tools you'd rather pay for once. Students learning HTML and JavaScript get a lot from it too, because the output is three readable files rather than a framework project. Skip it if your idea needs accounts, shared data or payments; start on a full-stack builder instead and save yourself a rebuild.
Questions people ask
Can the AI app builder make a mobile app?
It makes responsive web apps that work in a phone browser. It does not produce iPhone or Android apps for the app stores.
Does AI4Chat host the apps I build?
No. You download the project as a ZIP and put the three files on any static web host, or open index.html on your own computer.
Can it connect to an API or a database?
It can write browser code that calls a public API needing no secret key. Anything that needs a private key, a server or a shared database is outside what it builds.
Can I edit the code myself?
Yes. Every file opens in the editor, you can add files and folders, and your edits run in the preview. You can mix hand edits and chat requests on the same project.
Is the AI app builder free?
You can open it on a free account, but a build costs more credits than a free account starts with. In practice you build during the 7-day free trial of the Unlimited plan; after that, the price for your country is shown before you pay.
